Audit & Co conducts independent third party food safety audits for hospitality and food service businesses across Australia and the Asia Pacific. Our auditors are approved to conduct regulatory food safety audits in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia, and we develop food safety programs and HACCP plans for clients nationally.
What a food safety audit covers
An audit looks at how food actually moves through your operation, not just what your paperwork says. Our auditors assess receiving and storage, temperature control through cooking, cooling and reheating, cross contamination controls, allergen management, cleaning and sanitising, pest control, personal hygiene and staff practices, thermometer calibration, traceability and supplier records, maintenance, and the training and competency of the people doing the work.
We assess against your Food Safety Program, the Food Standards Code, and any additional brand or client standards that apply to your site.
What happens on the day
We start with a short opening session with your team so everyone knows what the audit covers. We then walk the kitchen and storage areas, review your records and food safety program, and finish with a wrap up before we leave, so you know what was found on the day rather than waiting for a report to tell you.
Every non conformance is photographed. There is no guesswork afterwards about what needs fixing or where it was found.
Most single site audits take three to six hours. Large hotels, catering operations and multi outlet venues may require a full day or longer. We confirm the expected duration before we attend.
The two reports you receive
After the visit you receive two documents.
A digital site report with images and scoring. This is the one your team works from. It shows where things stand, what was photographed, and what to focus on first.
A formal audit report for Council. This is the regulatory document, prepared to the standard your local authority requires.
Both are delivered to you typically within 24 hours of the audit.
Where corrective actions are identified we set out practical recommendations with an agreed completion timeframe. Your team submits evidence of the actions taken, we verify it, and we confirm closure.
Who we audit
Hotels and resorts, restaurants and bars, catering and function venues, aged care facilities, childcare centres, hospitals, food manufacturers, and distributors and suppliers. We work with single site operators and with groups running audit programs across multiple properties.
Where we are approved
Regulatory food safety audits under state food legislation must be conducted by an approved auditor in that state. Our auditors hold current approvals in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia.
Work that does not require state approval, including HACCP plan development, food safety program writing and review, pre audit readiness assessments, and brand or client standard audits, is available anywhere in Australia and across the Asia Pacific region.
Food safety programs and HACCP plans
We also build the systems, not just assess them. A food safety program starts with identifying every step where a hazard could enter your process, from receiving and storage through to preparation and service. HACCP builds on this by pinpointing the steps where a hazard must be controlled, such as cooking temperatures, cold storage or allergen handling.
The programs that hold up under pressure are built with input from the people actually running the kitchen, not written in isolation and handed down. We develop, review and strengthen food safety programs and HACCP plans, and prepare teams for certification and regulatory audits.
How often you need an audit
Most licensed food businesses require an audit at least once every twelve months. Councils may require six monthly audits for higher risk operations. Multi site and high volume operations often benefit from a more frequent schedule to keep standards consistent across locations.
Fees
Audit fees vary with the size and complexity of the site, so we quote on enquiry. Tell us about your operation and we will come back to you with a price.
